Two Years Today: The Day Everything Changed
Two years ago today, our world shattered.
It was the kind of moment you never think will happen to you. You hear stories, you feel sympathy, but nothing prepares you for the moment a doctor looks you in the eyes and says the words: “It’s a brain tumour.”
That was the day Zack’s diagnosis changed everything.
The questions came rushing in before we could even catch our breath—What does this mean? What’s going to happen? Will he be okay? What does the road ahead look like? The truth was, no one had a clear answer. We were suddenly thrust into a whirlwind of appointments, scans, surgeries, treatment plans, and uncertainty. Life became about surviving the next hour, the next day, the next MRI.
The road ahead was long. And it was hard.
There were moments that knocked us flat—unexpected complications, sleepless nights, pain we couldn’t take away, and so many tears we lost count. We watched someone we love most face battles that no one should ever have to. There were times when the light at the end of the tunnel felt impossibly far away.
But somehow, we kept going. Zack kept going.
There were victories too—moments that made our hearts swell with hope. Small milestones became huge celebrations. Smiles after hard days, a clear scan, a joke in the middle of treatment, a hug that meant we’re still here. The strength Zack showed has been nothing short of extraordinary. The way our family and friends rallied around us reminded us we were never alone, even when everything felt dark.
And today—two years later—we can finally say the words we didn’t dare hope for in the beginning:
There is light at the end of the tunnel.
We’re not the same people we were two years ago. We’re a little more tired, maybe, but we’re stronger. We’ve learned to hold on tighter to the good days, to speak love louder, and to never take a single moment for granted.
This journey isn’t over—but today, we pause. We reflect. We honor the fight, the fear, the courage, and the love that got us through.
To anyone just beginning this path—know that you’re not alone. The road is hard, but there is hope. There is light. There are better days ahead.
And to Zack—our warrior, our hero—you are the brightest light of all.
